Tips & Tricks Caring for Your Wool
Shrunken Wool
If your wool has shrunk from over agitation or a temperature shock, what you will need is a big bottle of conditioner (get the cheap stuff, you don't need anything fancy). Fill your sink with lukewarm water and add half of the conditioner & your wool. Gently stretch the wool back to the right size/shape. Add more conditioner if needed. Once you are satisfied its back to its normal size, hand-wash the wool with your usual wool wash. You will need to also do an extra rinse using vinegar (about 1 tablespoon) to help remove any remaining conditioner that could interfere with the performance of your wool.
Stubborn Stains
The first step in getting stains out of wool is using a wool wash bar. These usually are much better with stubborn stains than liquid washes. Try a bar a couple of times with extra soaking time. If you are still having trouble, try a 50/50 water/lemon juice solution and sun the wool for a short period of time. Use caution when working with dyed wool - this very well could fade the colors.
Make your wool look new again!
Lint shavers sure are neat little things! You can pick one up in the notions department of a fabric store for $5-$10. Look at how great these wool pants look after a couple of minutes with the shaver...
